Cookie Policy
1. The short version
Clove uses one strictly-necessary cookie to keep you signed in. That is the only cookie we set.
Everything else we store — your theme, your currency, your preferences — is kept in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie, and is never sent to us automatically.
We do not currently run analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking scripts on this site. If that changes, this page and the consent banner will be updated first, and non-essential storage will stay off until you allow it.
2. Strictly necessary — always on
These are required for the service to work at all. They cannot be switched off, and under UK/EU rules they do not require consent.
• Session token — keeps you signed in between page loads. Without it you would be logged out on every click. Cleared when you sign out.
• clove-cookie-consent-v1 — records the choice you made in the cookie banner, plus a timestamp and a version number. Storing your choice is what stops us asking again on every visit.
3. Preferences stored on your device
These live in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device, are not transmitted to us as part of ordinary requests, and are removed if you clear site data.
• clove-theme, clove-brand — light/dark mode and accent colour.
• clove-confirm-delete, clove-haptics — interface preferences you set in Settings.
• clove-suggestion-usage — counts of which topics you ask the assistant about, so the suggested prompts get more useful. It stores topic labels and counts only. It never stores your messages, and it is never sent to a server.
• clove_expenses_… — a cached copy of your own expenses so the app can show something instantly while the network request completes.
• clove-synced-timezone — the last timezone we sent, so we do not repeat the call on every launch.
4. Analytics and marketing
None at present. The consent banner shows Analytics and Marketing categories and both default to off. Nothing is loaded into those categories today; the toggles exist so that if we ever add them, your choice already applies rather than being asked for after the fact.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertising networks.
5. Third parties that can see a request
Some providers necessarily receive your IP address when your browser or our server talks to them. They are described in the Privacy Policy under sub-processors. They do not set advertising cookies through this site.
• Our hosting provider — serves the site and keeps security logs.
• Our database and authentication provider — stores your account and issues the session.
• Our AI provider — receives the text you send to AI features, only when you use them.
6. Managing your choices
You can change your consent at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer.
You can clear everything from your browser settings (Clear site data / Clear cookies). This signs you out and resets your preferences to defaults; your account and financial records are not affected.
Blocking the strictly-necessary session cookie in your browser will prevent sign-in from working. That is a limitation of how sessions work, not a choice we make.
7. Changes and contact
If we add a cookie or a tracker, we will update this page and the consent version before it loads, so a previously-given consent is never silently reused for something new.
